Bereavement Support Group

The aim of the group is to bring comfort and support to anyone who has suffered a bereavement and to give practical help with planning the funeral, such as helping chose suitable hymns and readings.

Members of the group usually visit the family about three weeks after the funeral and take a candle to them "which represents the life of the parish" and give them an opportunity to talk about their loss. The members of the group are not trained councillors but try to provide a compassionate ear. They also send a sympathy card at the time of death, and cards at the following Christmas and at the first anniversary.

There is a Mass for the Bereaved said each November to which all are invited, with a special invitation extended to all families who have suffered a bereavement during the previous year.
